MIMBULA Minerals Limited in Chingola, Copperbelt Province, has invested US$250 million in the establishment of a copper cathode plant, which will enable the firm to produce 60,000 tonnes of the mineral annually.
Mine director Fidelis Chanda told journalists in an interview that the new plant will be finished next year with an additional 200 local people being employed.
Mr Chanda said the 60,000 tonnes increase in copper output will be an upscale from 16,800 tonnes anticipated to be produced this year.
He said the mine, which is currently mining copper cathodes using the heap leaching method, started extracting minerals in 2022 at 900 tonnes per month.
Mr Chanda said this was after the mining firm invested US$200 million under phase one with 1,300 local people employed.
He said production has increased to 1,400 tonnes monthly, which will further be increased to 5,000 tonnes monthly once the plant is fully set up…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
