UPND wants ECZ to operate freely – Imenda

UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) secretary-general Batuke Imenda says Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) should be allowed to run elections in an acceptable international standard for the country to have peace with citizens cherishing democracy.
Mr Imenda says the governing party believes in the rule of law and independence of the electoral body.
He said ECZ remains a referee to all political parties participating in elections in the country.
Mr Imenda said at a joint press briefing after a high-level engagement with ECZ commissioners yesterday.
“For this country to be at peace, for us to cherish democracy, ECZ must be let to operate freely and run elections in the manner which is acceptable, locally and by international standards,” he said.
He said political parties’ engagements’ with ECZ is the only way the country can move forward on a positive trajectory to pursue a peaceful country.
