A SUSPECTED leader of a gang described by police as notorious and believed to be behind the mayhem at Shadrecks traffic lights in Matero, Lusaka, has been apprehended.
Deputy police public relations officer Danny Mwale, in a statement released yesterday, identified the suspected gang leader as Gift Banda, 28, also known as Black Fish.
Mr Mwale said the suspected gang leader was found by police officers who were on patrol on Sunday beating a 33-year-old man of Matero.
The victim was found in a bad shape by officers.
“The victim sustained a swollen forehead, cuts on the lips and was profusely bleeding from the nose,” Mr Mwale said.
“Police officers, while on patrol in Lusaka’s Shadrecks compound on May 5, 2024 around 11:00 hours, found a mob near Shadrecks bridge and later discovered that someone was being beaten while people were watching.
“Upon seeing police presence, the suspect ran away but officers gave chase and managed to apprehend him.”
Mr Mwale said officers found undisclosed quantity of marijuana on him.
“The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is currently admitted, while the suspect is detained waiting to be formally charged,” he said.
“Police are yet to establish the reason behind the assault of the 33-year-old man.”..https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/
