Mopani revival bears fruits

MOPANI Copper Mines (MCM) has started registering suppliers and contractors of goods and services on its database, signalling the revamping of the mine’s business segment.
Last week, President Hakainde Hichilema handed over the mine to Abu Dhabibased International Resources Limited (IRL) after it acquired a 51 percent stake in the mine.
The economy on the Copperbelt is anchored on mining, with more than 90 percent of companies supplying goods and services to the industry.
With slumped copper production at Mopani for the last four years, most contractors were forced to decommission their work, while the number of suppliers on the data base was reduced.
