Tayali opposes Kwacha sale

NDOLA Central Member of Parliament Frank Tayali has opposed plans by Ndola City Council (NCC) to sell Kwacha Grounds, a popular youth sports centre, to a developer for a service station.
Mr Tayali said the district has no other sports facility which the youths can use within town area because most of them have been sold off by the council.
NCC last week issued an advert that they had decided to sub-divide a portion of Kwacha Grounds, which is idle and not used for sporting activities, to be disposed of for mixeduse developments.
But speaking when he appeared on a Sun FM programme in Ndola, Mr Tayali said contrary to the council’s assertion that the said land is idle, the space is strategically reserved for recreational amenities.
He said his office has since written to NCC opposing plans for other uses and will soon engage Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Gary Nkombo.
Mr Tayali said he is aware that a certain foreign developer wants to put up a service station on the same land, but this will not be allowed.
“Such activities were happening in the previous administration, not in this one,” he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/
