Let’s use spirit of Easter to promote peace, unity

YESTERDAY, Christians from various denominations in the country and beyond celebrated Palm Sunday.
They marched while waving palm branches to celebrate Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem over 2,000 years ago.
Marking the beginning of the Holy Week on the Christian calendar, Palm Sunday holds significant cultural and religious importance to us.
The waving of palm branches, symbolic of peace and victory, is a tradition that resonates deeply with the people of Zambia.
As we reflect on the spirit of Easter during this time, it is crucial to consider how this occasion can be leveraged to foster peace and unity in the country.
The call by Life Gospel Fellowship Ministries general overseer Bishop Joseph Kazhila for Zambians to let the love of God prevail in their lives is timely.
Indeed, we need to forgive each other and learn to coexist and not to promote acrimony and engage in divisive activities.
As a country, “we need to have one mind, one accord, focused on how we can take our country to another level. We can’t keep on fighting…”
The message of Easter is one of hope, renewal, and reconciliation.
It is a time when people come together to reflect on the values of forgiveness, compassion, and love.
In a nation as diverse as Zambia, with various ethnic groups and tribal differences, the spirit of Easter provides a unique opportunity to rise above these divisions and promote peace and harmony among all citizens.
Our country has a history of peaceful coexistence and a tradition of resolving conflicts through dialogue and negotiation.
As we face various challenges, both internally and externally, it is imperative that we harness the spirit of Easter to reaffirm our commitment to peace and unity.
Just as Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, we too can triumph over adversity and division by coming together in a spirit of solidarity and understanding.
It is essential for leaders across all sectors of society to embrace the principles of reconciliation and inclusivity that Easter embodies.
Politicians, religious leaders, community elders, and citizens alike must strive to emulate the values of forgiveness and compassion in their interactions with one another.
By extending a hand of friendship and goodwill, we can bridge the gaps that separate us and build a more cohesive and harmonious society.
Zambia is a shining example of peaceful coexistence amongst its different peoples.
In a world characterised by increasing polarisation and conflict, the example of Zambia as a beacon of peace and unity is more important than ever.
By showcasing our commitment to unity in diversity, we can inspire others to follow suit and contribute to the promotion of peace on a broader scale.
As we celebrate the Holy Week and prepare for the Easter festivities ahead, let us remember the true essence of these occasions.
Let us recommit ourselves to the values of peace, love, and reconciliation that they symbolise.
And let us work together, hand in hand, to build a Zambia where all individuals count.
May the spirit of Easter guide us in our journey towards a more peaceful and prosperous nation.
May the blessings of Easter be upon Zambia now and always.
