Student escapes possible 14-year jail term

A 23-YEAR-OLD student has escaped a possible 14-year jail term for stealing a four-year-old boy she allegedly wanted to sell and buy drugs.
In exercising leniency, Lusaka magistrate Constance Kasankala imposed a three-year sentence on Habiba Tembo but suspended the whole term to one year.
The convict, who initially denied the charge but later admitted at a lawyer’s instruction, will go home since the entire jail term has been suspended.
But the court warned that should Tembo commit any crime during the suspension period, she will have to serve the whole three years’ imprisonment.
“I, therefore, sentence her to three years’ simple imprisonment with effect from February 1, 2022. However, I will suspend the whole sentence for a period of one year,” magistrate Kasankala ruled…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/
