A PROPHECY that called out a man of Ngwerere for allegedly being a wizard and for sleeping with women in their sleep has landed a Lusaka clergyman in trouble.
Patrick Mpasi, 41, of Chipwende village in Chibombo district, was sued in Matero Local Court by Willard Nyanwa, 31, for defamation of character after he ‘prophesied’ about him during an overnight prayer meeting.
Nyanwa told the court that on March 2 this year, some churches organised an all-night prayer meeting in Chongela area near a farm where he works.
“In my absence, the pastor [prophet Mpasi] told the gathering that there was a wizard in the area who turns into animals and sleeps with women in their sleep.
“He went on to ask the congregation if they wanted to know who the person was and they responded in the affirmative. That is how he mentioned my name and indicated that I took the charms used in witchcraft from my mother’s house in Mazabuka,” Nyanwa said.
He said prophet Mpasi told the gathering to pick some soil from the ground so that he could pray for it with the aim of attacking him with spiritual diarrhoea. Nyanwa said after the soil was prayed for, it was dumped near his house.
Mpasi, who is refered to as prophet Mpasi by his followers, sent the court into laughter after he bluntly stated that Nyanwa was a wizard. He justified his claim by saying that God revealed everything to him.
However, Nyanwa told the court that he was married and that he was not a wizard. He stated that he is a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.
Prophet Mpasi, who is from Reward in Faith Ministries, said he went to preach to sinners so that they could repent.
He told the court that he made a declaration that every witch in the area should repent and receive Jesus Christ.
Nyanwa’s wife, Sofi, 30, demanded that Mpasi shows her where her husband hides his charms but the clergyman said he could only do so if he was there in person.
She later ordered that a site visit be undertaken on March 21 to afford Mpasi an opportunity to expose Nyanwa’s charms.
