CHITAMBO District Commissioner Evans Chola has died in a road traffic accident in Mkushi while on his way to Kabwe to attend the Central Province Development Coordinating Committee (PDCC) meeting.
Both police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga and Central Province Permanent Secretary Milner Mwanakampwe confirmed the death of Mr Chola yesterday.
The accident happened yesterday around 06:00 hours on Great North Road in Chalata area.
Mr Chola was travelling with Peter Chilombo, 33, a headteacher at Chiotwe Primary School in Chitambo, in a Toyota Hilux registration number GRZ 825CR that was being driven by Jones Malipilo, 31, of Ebelelo road in Serenje.
“The incident happened due to excessive speed, which led to the driver to lose control of the vehicle and as a result it overturned,” Mr Hamoonga said.
Mr Chola, who sat in the back-seat, is said to have been thrown out of the vehicle window and suffered head injuries. He was pronounced dead at Mkushi District Hospital, where Mr Chilombo and Mr Malipilo were receiving treatment.
“We’re in deep shock,” Central Province Minister Princess Kasune said.
ECZ commissioner Macdonald Chipenzi said it is unfortunate that Mr Chola has died a few days before the Nakatambo ward by-election in Chitambo.
“We wish to send our sincere condolences to the family and the entire district,” he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
