LCC gets tough on opaque beer

LUSAKA City Council (LCC) has embarked on a robust enforcement of Statutory Instrument (SI) 23 of 2012 and SI 72 of 2012, which banned the sale and distribution of bulk opaque beer.
Some countries in the subregion such as Malawi and Zimbabwe have effectively enforced the law banning the sale and distribution of bulk opaque beer.
LCC director of public health Victor Kagoli said the municipality has deployed both state and council police as well as health officers on the ground to enforce the SIs since last Thursday.
Mr Kagoli said sale of bulk beer is a serious concern to members of the public and enforcement of the SIs is now a priority for the local authority.
