Botched escape lands suspected thieves in hospital

THREE suspects are nursing wounds at Roan General Hospital in Luanshya district after falling in a pit at Luanshya Copper Mine as they attempted to elude security guards who caught them stealing a steel pipe.
Copperbelt police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba says the incident happened on Sunday around 00:30 hours at the Chineseowned mining company Pit Six.
He said the matter was reported by John Mutale, 33, a guard from Cobra Security Company, which is contracted by the mine.
Mr Mweemba said in a statement that Mr Mutale reported that seven criminals stole a steel pipe whose value was yet to be ascertained.
