– President unveils UPND HQ, reflects on long walk to freedom

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema yesterday rolled back memory lane and recounted, with vividness, the long walk to freedom of the United Party for National Development (UPND) as he rejuvenated the party’s aspirations by giving direction on what it ought to do to sustain itself going forward.
Addressing party officials during the commissioning of the Anderson Kambela Mazoka House – the UPND’s national headquarters in Lusaka’s Rhodes Park, the President said the party had come a long way and called for reorganisation and strengthening of structures.
“We have come a long way. [We have] walked a long [journey and] lonely sometimes,” he said. “But other times brutal processes. This party is the most demonised [and] its members are the most brutalised post-independence.
“These facilities (new secretariat offices) are meant to be used to galvanise the party.
Let the party get rooted. Our agenda is to reorganise our structures, anchoring that on this headquarters. We must continue growing. The best defence is to attack.”
