PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has appointed former Prime Minister General Malimba Masheke and former Vice-President Inonge Wina as special envoys within and outside the country.
The President said he appreciates the former leaders’ contribution to the country and wants to tap into their wisdom.
According to ZNBC, President Hichilema said this through special letters delivered by his Political Adviser Levy Ngoma, Legal Adviser Christopher Mundia and Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet Oliver Kalabo.
General Masheke, who served as first President Kenneth Kaunda’s last prime minister before the United National Independence Party (UNIP) lost the 1991 general election to the Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD), thanked President Hichilema for the appointment.
“I am grateful and ready to offer advice towards service to the nation again,” the former Zambia Army commander said.
Mrs Wina, the country’s first female Vice-President, also thanked President Hichilema for recognising past leaders and extending a hand of reconciliation.
“My vision is to see Zambia prosper and I am ready to support and offer a hand to contribute to the development of our country,” she said.
On Wednesday, President Hichilema hosted a luncheon for former vice-presidents – Brigadier General Godfrey Miyanda, Enock Kavindele and Nevers Mumba.
