MILLERS Association of Zambia (MAZ) is satisfied that there is no GMO mealie meal that is being imported into Zambia by Government through the Zambia National Service (ZNS) as alleged by some people.
Speaking after conducting a joint tour at Kazungula One Stop Border Post yesterday, MAZ president Andrew Chintala said the association is comforted that the mealie meal Eagles Milling is producing is safe for consumption.
Mr Chintala said from the tours conducted so far, there is no indication that Eagles or any other importer is bringing into the country GMO mealie meal to be sold on the local market.
“I wish to place it on record that as millers, we are satisfied with what we have discovered during this tour we have conducted in Kazungula,” he said.
“That has given us comfort to say that we are safe and there is no indication that there is GMO mealie meal being sold by ZNS on the local market,” he said.
Mr Chintala said MAZ has ascertained that the mealie meal which is being imported by ZNS from South Africa is being transmitted to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
“What we reacted to as MAZ was information that was in the press that Eagles was importing mealie meal meant to be offloaded on the market,” he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/
