ACC tells court Hussain flight risk, also on Interpol wanted list

THE State has asked a magistrate not to grant bail to detained Star Motors proprietor Wahdat Hussain because the suspect, who has eight passports, is a flight risk and is on an Interpol wanted list.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) assistant director – legal Gloria Muyunda has submitted that the commission has information that Mr Hussain is wanted in South Africa and Botswana for criminal allegations.
“The accused person is among wanted persons in South Africa and Botswana for alleged human trafficking and money laundering,” Ms Muyunda told magistrate Trevor Kasanda.
The accused, who allegedly uses two different names, is appearing before magistrate Kasanda charged with possession of property suspected of being proceeds of crime.
It is alleged that between January 1, 2021 and January 27, 2024, Hussain possessed a grey Toyota Fortuner, white Toyota Hilux, BMW X5, White Toyota Fortuner, Land Cruiser Prado VX and two black and maroon Range Rovers.
All the vehicles are suspected of being proceeds of crime.Prior to his arrest, it was alleged that the accused stole cars from South Africa and changed their chassis before selling them to Zambians.
