Teen killer, 18, gets probation after strangling woman

AN 18-YEAR-OLD teenager of Petauke has been put on a probation for two years by the Chipata High Court after being convicted of killing a woman whom he robbed of a K300.
This will give the juvenile a chance to reflect on his behaviour and access counselling from the Department of Social Welfare.
He strangled Miliam Malunga in January 2022 while she was asleep and went away with K300 which she was keeping on behalf of a cooperative.
He appeared before Lusaka-based High Court Judge Dancewell Bowa for sentencing in the two counts he was charged with – aggravated robbery and murder.
Malunga was keeping money for Chisomo Women Village Bank when she was attacked by the teenager on January 19, 2022 in Petauke.
During trial, a number of witnesses that were called on stand and they identified him as the person the deceased mentioned to have attacked her prior to her death.
It was heard that the previous day before the woman was murdered, she was attacked while sleeping in her house but the assailant was overpowered and fled.
She then reported the matter to the police, who advised her not to spend a night alone at her house but that she went against the advice.
“She was found dead in her house the following day after she had reported to the police about someone who attacked her at night,” the court records read in part.
The matter was reported to Petauke Police Station and the teenager was apprehended, after which he led police officers to the bush where they recovered a small box which was stolen together with K300…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
