ZRA seizes K4m alcohol, gaga

ZAMBIA Revenue Authority (ZRA) has intercepted and seized a truck with over 2,000 smuggled cases of alcoholic beverages covered with maize bran (gaga) that has an estimated revenue loss of K4.2 million.
ZRA corporate communications manager Oliver Nzala yesterday said the authority’s mobile enforcement unit received intelligence information that there was a truck offloading alcohol in a truck yard in Lusaka.
“The alcohol was covered with bags of maize bran, commonly known as gaga and used to feed chickens,” he said. “The alcohol covered under the maize bran was brought in from Eastern Province as a concealment method to mislead officers that they were carrying maize bran.”
Mr Nzala said both the alcohol and truck will be forfeited to the State as provided for in the Customs and Excise Act.
“We urge all importers and transporters to desist from facilitating their drivers into such habits because once goods are intercepted, there are far-reaching consequences not only to the owners of the products but the transporters involved,” he said…https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
