ACC nabs court bailiff over K7,000

ANTI-CORRUPTION Commission (ACC) has arrested a court bailiff in Choma for corrupt practices involving K7,000.
In a statement released in Lusaka yesterday, ACC head – corporate communications Timothy Moono said Tobias Samalala has been charged with one count of abuse of authority of office after demanding and receiving K7,000 from a person who had been sued.
Mr Moono said the prescribed bailiff fee is K800.
“The Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested and charged Tobias Samalala, a court bailiff in Choma, for corrupt practices involving K7,000,” he said.
“Mr Tobias Samalala, 47, of Humba area in Choma, has been charged with one (1) count of abuse of authority of office contrary to section 21(1)(b) as read with section 41 of the AntiCorruption Act No. 3 of 2012.
“Details are that between 1st November 2018 and 31st December 2019, Tobias Samalala, a court bailiff at Choma Subordinate Court in Choma, did abuse the authority of his office by demanding and receiving K7,000 from a named person who had been sued in the courts of law, which amount was over and above the prescribed bailiff fees of K800.”
