– Female top ranked table-tennis player Latifa Nalavwe yesterday lost to
South Africa’s Laila Edwards in the quarterfinals at the Botswana Open Championship.
Nalavwe lost 3-2 to Edwards in a tightly contested last-eight encounter while compatriot Kunda Mubanga also failed to
advance beyond the quarter-finals after losing 3-0 to Danisha Patel, of South Africa.
Both Nalavwe and Patel pocketed P1, 000 each (about K1,763.69).
Men’s seed one, Charles Banda, Dismus Mushimwa and Janet Mwelwa all failed to advance beyond the last 16.
Zambia’s Choolwe Haamalambo was by press time expected to play in the semifinals.
The Zambian players, whose trip was made possible by Atlas Mara Bank, were using the tournament in Gaborone to prepare for the 2024 Ghana All-Africa Games..https://enews.daily-mail.co.zm/welcome/home
