Zambia gets first green bond through SEC

ZAMBIA has registered its debut US$200 million green bond through Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC), a listed firm on the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC),
on the sidelines of the COP28 climate summit.
This registration of the green bond is a first for Zambia’s capital markets and is expected to attract more green finance in the country.
Minister of Green Economy and Environment Collins Nzovu said during the announcement of the bond at the Zambian Pavilion on the
Energy Day, that Government is delighted that the private sector has proved to be great partners in the green energy transition and have provided leadership in showcasing Zambia’s prowess in green projects and green jobs.
“I am happy to announce at this year’s COP28 that Zambia has registered its debut green bond issuance through CEC, a listed company on the Lusaka Securities Exchange, for an amount of US$200 million,” Mr Nzovu said.
The minister said the proceeds from the bond will be deployed towards further solar green generation investments within CEC Group, specifically CEC renewables which is an
