Nsama teacher drowns in stream

A 40-YEAR-OLD teacher of Nsama Primary School in Nsama, Northern Province, has died after falling into the Mwembeshi stream.

Nsama District Commissioner Steward Katele identified the deceased as Noel Kalwazhi. Mr Katele told ZANIS that the incident happened on Monday around 22:00 hours.

The teacher is said to have been coming from running errands at a nearby village when he slipped on the bridge and fell into the deep part of the stream.

His body was retrieved around 05:00 hours on Tuesday.

Mr Katele has described the late Mr Kalwazhi as a dedicated and hard-working teacher who was loved by pupils.

His body was taken to Mporokoso District Hospital awaiting transportation to Mwinilunga, where he originally came from.

And a 27-year-old woman has died on the spot following a road traffic accident on Airport Road in Chipata on Monday. Eastern Province police commanding officer Limpo Liywalii identified the woman as Judith Banda, of Referendum, who was with Daniel Tembo on a motorbike, which was hit by a motor vehicle.
