2,000 trees donated

DOREEN NAWA, Lusaka
ZAMBIA Chinese Association (ZCA) in collaboration with Cultural and Environmental Protection Organisation (CEPO) has donated over 2,000 trees which will be handed over to the public.
The assorted trees and plants will be given to members of the public at a ceremony to be held at East Park Mall in Lusaka tomorrow.
ZCA chairman Zhang Jian said the ceremony, under the theme ‘Plant a tree today, receive a blue sky tomorrow – building a better Zambia’, will be graced by Minister of Lands and Environmental Protection Christabel Ngimbu, Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development Vincent Mwale and officials from the Zambia Environmental Management Agency.
Mr Zhang said the trees, which include an assortment of indigenous species, fruit trees and other plants, was aimed at raising public awareness on the need to conserve the environment in light of the devastating effects of the El Niño and La Niña phenomena.
The phenomena have resulted in extreme weather patterns that have hit the globe.
Last week world leaders met in Paris, France, at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) climate meeting to discuss the ways of addressing the global extreme weather patterns.
