15 teams vie for Ndola 7s title

CHISHALA MUSONDA, Ndola
WITH champions Red Arrows unable to defend the title, 15 teams will vie for glory at today’s Ndola Sevens Rugby Championship.
The Zambia Air Force has sent Arrows players for military training in Mbala.
Despite this hitch, the tournament thrills are expected to sparkle with front runners Diggers, Green Eagles and Nkwazi jostling for the honours in the one-day championship.
Nkwazi, defeated in last year’s final, will be aiming to go a step further at Ndola Wanderers Club.
The Zambia Police Service outfit, who are drawn in Pool B, are not going to have it easy with ‘Powerhouse’ Lusaka looking at revenging their loss in the semi-finals during the 2014 tournament.
In their Pool, Nkwazi are favoured to pull through but should work on preventing upsets against hosts Ndola A, Kansanshi and Mufulira.
Green Eagles, who lost to Arrows at the last four stage, are another team to watch in the tournament with Kansanshi from Solwezi coming in to showcase the rugby skills from the North-Western Province.
Buffaloes, who did not compete last year, come in the tournament strongly to try and prove a point as they are in Pool A and are pitted against fellow military side Eagles, Diggers B and Konkola.
Lusaka have to negotiate past Kitwe Playing Field (KPF) A, Roan and Ndola B in Pool C with Chibuluma in Pool D against Diggers A and KPF B.
The winners will pocket K7,000 while the runners-up will go away with K5,000.
