15 in Mansa hospital after road accident

Nancy Siame – Lusaka
FIFTEEN health workers from Mansa are battling for their lives at St Paul’s Mission Hospital in Nchelenge after the bus they were travelling in collided with another vehicle.
Luapula Province commissioner of police Malcolm Mulenga said the accident happened around 15:00 hours on Saturday along the Mununga –Nchelenge road.
He said the workers were travelling in a Mazda Swartz minibus registration number AAP 7169 which was being driven by Mulenga Lupiya, 34, of Nchelenge which collided with a Volvo truck registration number ALV 8317 driven by Thomas Katuta of Mansa.
“The Mazda was carrying 15 health workers who were doing malaria in-door spraying in Nchelenge while the truck was carrying Food Reserve Agency maize,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said the accident happened when the minibus driver wanted to overtake the truck loaded with maize and in the process hit into it.
“The condition of the injured is serious,” Mr Mulenga said.
