A CORONER has called for further investigations into a case in which two police officers at Kanyama Police Station in Lusaka are accused of causing the death of a suspect who was in custody.
In this case, Ephraim Hamutali and Cornwell Mulonga are alleged to have beaten the suspect, who was later admitted to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) intensive care unit, where he died.
In a verdict on an inquest surrounding the death of Benny Mbandu, delivered on January 9, magistrate Ntandose Chabala, who sat as a coroner in the matter, said Mr Mbandu died as a result of cerebral contusion due to head injuries.
