THE favourable copper price on the global market will see Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) transporting about 1.3 million tonnes of goods this year compared to 750,000 tonnes last year.
Currently, copper price is around US$7,000 per tonne.
ZRL managing director Christopher Musonda said the recently signed statutory instrument that compels transporters of heavy cargo to move 30 percent of bulk cargo from road to railway, will also help in the expected volumes.
Mr Musonda told journalists on Friday that the company is positioning itself to transport the expected volumes of cargo.
