ZAMBIA Railways Limited (ZRL) says it has reached an advanced stage in the acquisition of rolling stock from South Africa.
Board chairperson Lubinda Linyama said the team to inspect the rolling stock which includes wagons; coaches and locomotives in South Africa are already in place.
ZRL is having discussions with Trasnet Freight Rail to supply the rolling stock in line with the Statutory Instrument to transport bulky goods by rail to reduce the burden on road infrastructure.
Mr Linyama said this during a tour of ZRL infrastructure in the southern region which started from Lusaka and ended in Mulobezi.
He said the company is on “positive traction” despite challenges of encroachment near railway tracks and land.
