CHOMBA MUSIKA, Lusaka
THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) will start collecting tax from foreigners selling imported goods at all borders using an open market, commissioner-general Kingsley Chanda has said.
Mr Chanda directed the ZRA commissioner of domestic taxes to immediately work out mechanisms for the collection of the taxes.
He was concerned that traders from neighbouring countries were not registered for local taxes but generated income in Zambia, changed it into foreign currency and travelled back into their countries.
Mr Chanda said the illegal practice would be checked because it did not benefit the country.
This is contained in a statement issued yesterday by ZRA senior public relations manager Oliver Nzala.
And Mr Chanda has called for an emergency meeting with the concessionaire at Kasumbalesa Border Post to discuss the remaining deliverables on the contract.
He said while the concessionaire was collecting a lot of money at the border, the systems were not working properly.
Mr Chanda was concerned that the border was congested and processing was slow despite the huge investment.
He said this after a tour of Kasumbalesa Border Post yesterday to check on smuggling.
