THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is on course in terms of catching up with individuals and corporates evading tax.
Last week, ZRA unearthed another transit fraud smuggling case worth over K408,000 in which meat products purported to be transiting to the Democratic Republic of Congo were intercepted.
ZRA commissioner-general Kingsley Chanda invoked the provisions of the customs and excise Act Cap 322 which empowers him to dispose of all perishable goods.
But to the surprise of the general public, ZRA seemingly misplaced its donations of meat to Zambia Army, Zambia Air Force and Zambia National Service.
The meat should have just been given to genuinely needy institutions such as orphanages, hospitals and prisons. Orphans, patients and inmates are in a direr situation.
