THE Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) is reviewing the legislative framework on the use of technology to collect tax to improve compliance by traders.
The authority says it is working on modernising trade logistics and improving procedures to enhance trade facilitation and has embarked on the upgrade of the customs system from ASCYUDA++ to a more robust web-based system known as ASCUDA World.
ZRA commissioner for customs Dingani Banda said in a speech read on his behalf by deputy commissioner for customs Reuben Kunda that initiatives are aimed at improving the ease of doing business.
“Despite the opportunity available to enhance service delivery through the use of technology, the unfortunate reality is that most public institutions involved in trade logistics have not aligned their legislative framework,†Mr Banda said.
He said technology provides the country with opportunities to fast-track economic growth and development through increased international trade.
