ZNUT hails State education infrastructure drive

ZAMBIA National Union of Teachers (ZNUT) secretary general Newman Bubala has commended Government for embarking on various infrastructural developments in the education sector.
In an interview, Mr Bubala said implementation and initiation of developmental projects in the education sector shows Government’s commitment.
He said although Government cannot tackle all challenges faced in the sector, the teachers union was glad to see more projects being undertaken.
Mr Bubala who described 2015 as a good year also commended Government for improving the road network especially in rural areas.
He hoped investors would take interest investing in setting up banks in new areas to help teachers to access such financial services.
“There are many places where teachers are unable to access banks but with the improved road network, we hope to see investors setting up banks in such places,” Mr Bubala said.
There will also be an improvement of teacher pupil ratio in schools because of the recruitment that was carried out last year.
Mr Bubala however, hoped more teachers will be recruited so that they can provide quality education to pupils.
He also appealed to Government to ensure that more materials and computers are budgeted for to avoid what transpired during the ICT grade nine examinations last year.
And for Government to ensure that the teacher migration agreement, salary increment among other agreements signed in 2015 are implemented this month.
