KELLY NJOMBO, Lusaka
THE Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) is concerned about the huge quantities of imported tomatoes flooding the local market as they are adversely affecting farmers’ income.ZNFU is, therefore, calling for thorough investigations into the matter to ascertain who broke the fruits and vegetables stakeholders’ protocol to allow tomato imports without considering how it could impact on the local sector.
ZNFU said in a statement on Wednesday that 20 metric tonnes of tomatoes have been entering the Zambian market every day from South Africa and Tanzania since April this year through Chirundu and Nakonde.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
