ZNFU boss calls for banking services at agri expo

ZAMBIA National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU) president Evelyn Nguleka has called on commercial banks to consider setting up automated teller machines (ATMs) and point-of-sale (PoS) units at the Agritech Expo in Chisamba this year to enable farmers buy agricultural equipment and products.
The Agritech Expo scheduled for April 16-18 is an annual event.
Last year it attracted over 8,000 of the industry’s leading farmers, suppliers, manufacturers, retails, agents and service providers.
In a statement, Dr Nguleka said the show has huge trade potential but lacked amenities such as ATMs and PoS which are important in business.
She said ZNFU expects commercial banks to come on board and provide financial services to ease the way of doing business for exhibitors and the public this year.
“Lack of ATM and PoS units at the show by commercial banks has limited cashless sales and equally banks lost out on business. Agritech has proven itself not only as a networking platform, but a unique and targeted business stage where actual sales happen.
“We, therefore, want to see exhibitors and participants to come prepared and transact… We are also looking forward to special discounts by our agribusiness firms during the Agritech 2015,” she said.
Dr Nguleka said the union will also conduct training for exhibitors on how to make sales and create awareness on special offers as well as continue building on last year’s success to make this year’s event one that agri-business stakeholders look forward to.
“This year, our aim is to make Agritech bigger, stronger and real. We have increased the exhibition space, dedicated one of the three days as a focus day for commercial and emerging commercial farmers,” she said.
