ZMSA pleads for Essa

ROBINSON KUNDA, Lusaka
WITH two weeks remaining before the final leg of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) in Madagascar, Zambia’s envoy Mohammed Essa is struggling to meet the budget of K235,000.
Zambia Motor Sport Association (ZMSA) vice-president Sam Ching’ambu said in Lusaka yesterday that Essa has a shortfall of K145,000.
Ching’ambu said the association is working around the clock to ensure the money is raised.
“As you know Zambia is the defending champion of the ARC and we can’t just surrender the championship on a silver plate. I am appealing to well-wishers to come on board and help Essa meet the budget,” he said.
Ching’ambu said it will be sad if Essa misses the event.
“I will be meeting the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) today [yesterday] maybe they might assist. But like I said, we are asking for help from the business houses and other well-wishers,” he said.
Ching’ambu is confident the NSCZ will bail out Essa.
Last week, ZMSA handed over K90,000 to Essa which they raised from the corporate houses and individuals.
Gary Chaynes of Ivory Coast is leading the ARC standings with 101 points while Essa is second with 95 and the winner of the Madagascar rally will be crowned African champion.
Jassy Singh won the ARC title last year.
