ZIPAR urges State to give relief to treasury

Mwanakatwe

ESTHER MSETEKA, Lusaka
ZAMBIA Institute for Policy Analysis (ZIPAR) has urged Government to effectively implement projects that will give relief on the Treasury in view of the debt situation.
Early this year, Minister of Finance Margaret Mwanakatwe announced that Government had with immediate effect ordered the cancellation of some existing loans and banned the issuance of letters of credit and guarantees to state-owned enterprises.
Government also terminated financing of developmental projects that are below 80 percent completion and cut down on ministerial travels.
ZIPAR senior research fellow Caeser Cheelo said there is need for fiscal prudence, if Zambia is to efficiently redistribute wealth and secure economic growth.http://epaper.daily-mail.co.zm/
