PAY TV subscribers have gone two days with blank screens due to an apparent war between GoTV and TopStar. The Independent Broadcasting Authority and Zambia Information and Communication Technology (ZICTA) seem to have gone to sleep.
Over 20,000 subscribers have paid to watch nothing as decoders for both TV companies remain with no signal.
Zambian TV audiences seem to be at the mercy of the two international companies currently in bed with ZNBC – Multichoice of South Africa and StarTimes of China.
The blank screens have also been seen in Kafue and Luanshya.
In December 2017, GoTV subscribers in Livingstone and Solwezi also went a month without watching.
It appears as if MultiChoice is more concerned about the DStv clients who pay hundreds of kwacha to watch repeats and foreign channels leaving the average Zambian behind.
The question is where are the regulators? Why did ZICTA awad GoTV a licence for PayTV when they can’t even provide service?
