ZAMBIA Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) has exceeded its annual revenue collection by 125 percent to over K826.7 million as at November 30 against a target of about K372.5 million stipulated in the 2021 national budget. Acting director general Mutale Mwenya described 2021 as exceptional in the authority’s efforts to complement Government’s revenue generation activities. This is mainly supported by the peculiar one-off offer of the high demand spectrum to the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs). ZICTA exceeded the revenue collection by K454.2 million. Mr Mwenya said in a statement issued yesterday that the increase in revenue collection is due to the auctioning of the spectrum in the 800 megahertz (MHz) band through a competitive restricted granting procedure and the debt swap payment with Zamtel, among others. “The authority has a revenue collection target for the year ending December 31, 2021 amounting to K372, 582,186 as stipulated in the 2021 national budget.
