ZICTA engages Samsung on Galaxy Note 7

KELLY NJOMBO, Lusaka
THE Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) has officially written to Samsung Electronics requesting them to come up with interventions on how best the Galaxy Note 7 smartphone will be withdrawn from the Zambian market.
Samsung Electronics Corporation has announced a recall of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in countries where the device has been launched.
According to a statement availed to the Daily Mail yesterday by ZICTA public relations officer Hanford Chaaba, although the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phone has not yet been officially launched in Zambia, it is important to take precautions.
The statement said the public should be cautious with the smartphones as they overheat due to a factory defect and this poses a safety risk among consumers.
“The authority has written officially to Samsung Electronics requesting them to come up with interventions and indicate to the authority how best the device will be withdrawn from the Zambian market, bearing in mind that some Zambian consumers may have purchased the device from other markets where the product had been launched,” the statement reads.
It says ZICTA has since urged all consumers with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 phones to visit the authorised Samsung Electronic Service Partner outlets in Zambia to ensure safety.
