Zhongkai raises cassava demand for ethanol

KABANDA CHULU, Lusaka
CASSAVA farmers will now have a wider market following expansion of the ethanol extraction and processing plant by Zhongkai International Limited in Chibombo to 300 tonnes daily, from 200 tonnes.
In an interview last week, Zhongkai International managing director Chen Guiping said the company intends to play a key role in the supply of ethanol to be used for blending of fuel and for sanitiser production.
“We have embarked on an expansion project to increase plant capacity from processing 200 tonnes to 300 tonnes every day, and this will entail us to receive a harvest from fields of about 20 hectares daily.
“Through this process, we project to produce 1,000 litres of ethanol daily for blending purposes [although Government wants 1.2 million litres] and also to feed into sanitiser, disinfectants and methylated spirit production, and the processed cassava will be used as raw materials for CLICK TO READ MORE
