Zesco target big win over South Sudan side

SKIPPER Jacob Banda says Zesco United are targeting beating South Sudan side Al Ghazala Wau by a wide margin in Saturday’s 2016 African Champions League preliminary round first leg and make the return fixture a formality.
In an interview after yesterday morning’s training session at Trade Fair Ground in Ndola, Banda said Zesco will use home ground advantage to the fullest.
“I think we have to do our best on Saturday. We have to win to go to the next round. The team is geared and is well-prepared. I think this time we are going to make it into the group stage of the competition,” Banda said.
Zesco were last year ejected from the competition in the first round after losing 5-4 on penalties to AS Kaloum of Guinea. The teams tied 2-2 on aggregate after two legs.
Banda, who kept a clean sheet in four games at the 2016 Rwanda African Nations Championship (CHAN), where Zambia reached the quarter-finals, said Zesco are ready to do battle with the Sudanese.
Defenders Dauti Musekwa and midfielders Cletus Chama and Mwelwa Mwape, who were with the national team in Rwanda, also trained under the watchful eye of coach George Lwandamina.
Zesco were supposed to face Al Altabara, who opted to drop to the Confederation Cup.
Initially Al Ghazala were South Sudan representatives in the Confederation Cup.
