NAKAMBALA 0 ZESCO 1
ZESCO United yesterday dislodged Lumwana Radiants from the summit of the Super Division after edging Nakambala Leopards in a rescheduled Week
Two match played before a capacity crowd.
Zesco have nine points, two better than Lumwana. Nakambala remain on four.
It took Zesco 44 minutes to find the net. Fackson Kapumbu’s corner was cleared and the ball fell in his way and the Chipolopolo defender fired with his left past goalkeeper Reagan Lulendo, who was out of his line.
Zesco midfielder Kondwani Mtonga shot wide after benefiting from Dave Daka’s cross in the fifth minute.
Zesco goalkeeper Jacob Banda hacked Nakambala striker Lameck Banda outside the box after the defence was exposed but the free kick was wasted in the 13th minute.
Jesse Were broke through on 21 minutes and found Idris Mbombo, but the Congolese grew cold feet when it mattered most.
Nakambala grew in confidence and pinned Zesco but failed to turn their dominance into goals.
Lulendo parried Daka’s shot for a corner on 43 minutes and a minute later, Zesco scored.
Nakambala coach Mathews Phiri introduced Ignatius Lwipa, scorer in the 1-0 win over Green Buffaloes last Sunday, for Wilmore Haatembo in the 54th minute.
Two minutes later, Lameck Silwimba’s header missed the target by some inches from a Junior Zulu cross.
