Zesco chase Mbombo signature

ALEX NJOVU, Lusaka
ZESCO United are chasing the signature of Kabwe Warriors goal-poacher Idriss Mbombo to bolster their squad for the 2016 African Champions League.
Mbombo, a Congolese, scored 22 goals as Warriors bounced back to the Super Division with 83 points, 20 better than second-placed Lusaka Tigers.
The player has also attracted interest from Morocco outfit Wydad Casablanca.
Warriors secretary Harry Siame said in an interview in Kabwe yesterday that the Super Division champions are interested in signing the player on a permanent transfer.
However, the offer has been rejected as Warriors can only release him on loan.
Siame said Mbombo is willing to join Zesco.
“Zesco United have approached us. They want to buy Idris Mbombo but we have refused. He is not for sale to any local club at any price.
“We are willing to loan him to Zesco to help them in the CAF Champions League but he will not be able to play against us [Warriors] in the league or cup competition. We are going to include that clause in the contract,” he said.
He said Mbombo has also attracted attention from an unnamed Belgian team.
“There is a Division One club that wants him in Belgium but they first want him to gain experience by playing in another European league like Eastern Europe, particularly in Kosovo. We are in talks with them,” Siame said.
He said Mbombo is a high-profile player.
“We are not surprised that a lot of clubs are interested in his signature. He is a very good player. We are also working hard to ensure that we strengthen our squad ahead of next season,” Siame said.
Siame is confident Warriors will excel in the Super Division.
