Zesco bids to stop Great North Road works

ZESCO Limited has asked the High Court to stop construction works on the Great North Road until the Road Development Agency (RDA) and Avic International pay over K9 million in damages for re-routing power lines traversing the road.

According to a statement of claim filed in the High Court by Zesco Limited, the utility firm has contended that works on the project should be stopped until installations of the power lines are done.
It has been submitted that Zesco infrastructure in the areas where the Great North Road is being rehabilitated was damaged due to negligence by Avic International, the company contracted to work on the road.
