Zanaco inferno fire fighter dies

A CHIPATA fire fighter who was among the team fighting the inferno that gutted Zanaco Chipata branch on Friday has died.
The fire fighter had access to the rooftop of the burning building but fell off as he tried to find a vantage point.
The bank building on Friday was in flames starting from 15:30 hours to about 17:30 hours however no staff or customer was injured except for the Chipata Council fire fighter who injured himself as he tried to put off the inferno. He was rushed to Chipata General Hospital where he died.
Chipata chief fire officer Fackson Mbewe confirmed the death of Chris Zulu in an interview in Chipata yesterday.
Mr Mbewe said Mr Zulu died hours after he was rushed to Chipata General Hospital on Friday.
“I want to announce that we lost one of our dedicated fire fighters Chris Zulu when he fell from the burning building. He lost a lot of blood in the accident and died at Chipata General Hospital a few hours after being rushed there,” he said.
He said a detailed report will be given later on the extent of the damage to the building but fire was suspected to have started from a computer room.
And HONE SIAME from Kitwe reports that a miner working for JCHX Mining, a company contracted by Non-Ferrous Company Africa (NFCA) in Chambishi has died due to a rock fall accident.
Mine Workers Union of Zambia (MUZ) general secretary Joseph Chewe confirmed in Kitwe yesterday that Richard Chilembo of Chingola died on Friday in a rock fall accident.
Mr Chewe said the accident that happened around 04:00 hours left the other miner, whom he did not name, with injuries.
He said the injured miner was rushed to Kitwe’s Sinozam Hospital where he was treated and discharged.
Mr Chewe said MUZ is saddened by the death of Chilembo and fatalities that have rocked mining firms.
“I can confirm that a miner by the name of Richard Chilembo died in the early hours of yesterday (Friday) due to a rock fall.  As MUZ, we regret the death of Chilembo and we would like to send our message of condolences.
