MINISTER of Transport and Communication Brian Mushimba has commended Zambia Postal Services Corporation (Zampost) for implementing a solid business strategy towards the transformation of the corporation into a viable entity.
Mr Mushimba has also challenged parastatals under the ministry as well as other parastatals to think outside the box and become innovative to create value for shareholders.
Mr Mushimba said Government is impressed with the ambitious diversification agenda that the corporation has embarked on over the past six years.
â€œIt is amazing to see a bouquet of products that is making the entity profitable and paying dividends to Government.
â€œThe diversification strategy has transformed the post office into a one stop shop which provides essential services to customers,â€ he said.
Mr Mushimba cited e-letter service and the acquisition of the deposit taking licence for Micro Finance Limited as some interesting innovations that have been implemented.
He was speaking during the handover ceremony of two delivery vans donated by the United Nations Development Programme in Ndola recently.
And Mr Mushimba assured the Zampost board of Governmentâ€™s support to ensure that the corporation succeeds and remains competitive in the marketplace.
He said there is need for parastatals to turn around their operations by being creative and innovative.
He said Government has been very supportive to the institutions for them to create value for the shareholder.
During the official opening of the 11th Session of Parliament, President Lungu spoke on the need for parastatals to be commercially viable and profitable and within three to five years list on the Lusaka Securities Exchange.
Mr Mushimba said President Lunguâ€™s call meant parastatals should clean their books, inefficiencies and embrace innovations, technology and deliver value to shareholders.
Zampost board chairperson Elizabeth Kachamba said the prospects of the corporation looked bright for the year 2017, based on sound business strategy, diligence, innovation and integrity which have been laid.
