DIANA CHIPEPO, Gold Coast, Australia
IT WAS a largely an uninspiring first day for the Zambian athletes at the Commonwealth Games with boxing the only discipline providing the most positive outlook.
While lightweight boxer Emmanuel Ngoma recorded a second round technical knockout against Steven Tevii of Kiribati in the preliminary round, swimmers Tilka Paljk, Ralph Goveia and Moonakala Kumaren were all eliminated in their respective heats.
Badminton and squash players did not do any better.
