Zambian teams start International Sevens title chase

MULWANDA LUPIYA, Ndola
THE Zambia International Sevens Rugby Championship gets under way today at Leopards Hill Polocrosse Club in Lusaka with hosts Zambian teams seeking to shine in front of their fans.

The tournament returns after a four-year absence.
Zambia, who are fielding two teams, must overcome stiff competition from Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Botswana and Zimbabwe have also entered two teams apiece.
ZAMBIA A v BOTSWANA B
This Pool A encounter will set the tone for Zambia’s path and the Musonda Kaminsa-tutored side will be eager to get a win.
Kaminsa will rely on skipper Israel Kalumba, Kapindu Nyangu Guy Lipschitz, Jeremy Badcock and Lastone Mukosa for victory.
But the Tswanas have come with live ammunition and will not be pushovers.
Zimbabwe Goshawks, DRC and Copperbelt Select are the other teams in the group.
ZAMBIA B v LESOTHO
To keep alive the chances of ensuring that the trophy remains in Zambia, the B side under the tutelage of Reuben Mkandawire must be at its best from the start.
In Berthlock Sikaona, Daniel Luyt, Derrick Chewe, Melvin Banda, Brian West and Brian Mbalwa, Mkandwire has match winners.
Zimbabwe A, Botswana A and Midlands Select are the other teams that make up Pool B.
