Zambian editor scoops media award

ZAMBIA’s seasoned female journalist Mary Mbewe has won the 2020 Editorial Leadership Award Laureate for Africa bestowed by WAN-IFRA Women in News.
Mrs Mbewe, who swanks of a three decade illustrious career in the main stream media, is currently serving as the executive editor of the Daily Nation newspaper, one of the country’s largest privately- owned publications.
The WIN (Women In News) Editorial Leadership Award selects one outstanding editor from Sub-Saharan Africa and one from the Arab Region, annually.
The announcement for Mrs Mbewe’s award was made yesterday at WAN-IFRA’s Digital Media Africa conference.
Due to global COVID-19 pandemic, the award ceremony was held virtually.
The award recognises excellence in leadership, and an unwavering commitment to equality and press freedom.
Candidates are selected by the Award Selection Committee, comprised of members of the WIN Steering Committee, as well as previous Laureates.
In her acceptance letter to WIN, Mrs Mbewe expressed her passion for telling true and authentic human stories of everyday Zambians who often go unnoticed.
