Zambia Sugar Open in Prudential sponsorship

ROBINSON KUNDA, Lusaka
AN insurance company, Prudential, has donated K80, 000 towards the hosting of the 2017 Zambia Sugar Open Golf Championship teeing off on April 21.
Company head of finance William Moulder handed over the cheque to the Roy Penney-headed Zambia Sugar Open organising committee in Lusaka yesterday.
Moulder said Prudential is excited to be part of the sponsors for this year’s tournament.
He said golf is a sport that brings people together and, as such, his company is proud to associate itself with the tournament that has attracted golfers from across the world.
“Our company operates in many countries across the world and we have been open to sponsoring different sports activities. In London, we sponsor one of the biggest bicycle competitions and obviously we are open even here,” Moulder said.
And Penney said over 70 percent of the US$500,000 budget has been raised.
“We are very grateful to Prudential for the gesture. We are hoping the company will have a longer relationship with golf,” he said.
So far the organising committee has raised over US$360,000.
Swedish Christofer Blomstrand is the defending champion after he fired a remarkable 276 [16 under] after three rounds last year.
