ROBINSON KUNDA, Nkoloma Stadium, Lusaka
AFRICA Junior Championship bound Zambia and South Africa yesterday settled for a draw in an international friendly.
Both teams unleashed their best ammunition and the match was played at a high tempo required of teams preparing for a continental championship.
South Africa took the lead on 17 minutes when Liam Jordan nodded in Athenkosi Dlala’s corner beating goalkeeper Danny Sikanyika.
But 11 minutes later, Chris Kaunda’s boys levelled through Nchanga Rangers’ striker Patson Daka.
Daka unleashed a shot beating goalkeeper Mondu Mponto.
In the 32nd minute, Musonda Siame placed a through-ball for Enock Mwepu but the Chambishi Football Club player shot wide with Mponto at his mercy.
Mwepu wasted another scoring opportunity on 53 minutes when he headed wide when scoring was the only option.
Kaunda introduced Garry Mwelwa for Siame in the 67th minute while goalkeeper Sikanyika was withdrawn for Albert Mwanza on 80 minutes.
At the Africa Junior Championship, Zambia are in Group A with Guinea, Nigeria and hosts Niger while South Africa face Ivory Coast, Mali and Cameroon in Group B.
The 15-day tournament will kick off on February 15.
